About the Swindon Stop the War Coalition
Swindon Stop the War Coalition was formed in late 2001 by a group of people who were concerned about the warlike noises coming out of the White House after 11th September. We are a wide-ranging group, including muslims, christians, atheists, buddhists, trade unionists, greens, socialists, lib dems, animal welfare campaigners and assorted peace activists with no other political or religious ties.
We have organised transport to demonstrations in London every year since 2002, and at USAF Fairford during 2002 and 2003. We also mobilised 250 people to protest in Swindon town centre when the invasion of Iraq started in March 2003, and took part in organising a protest at RAF Brize Norton in 2006.
We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Friends Meeting House, Eastcott Hill ( map ) at 7:30 pm.

The resolution below, setting out Swindon Stop the War Coalition's platform, was ratified at an open meeting held on 11th February 2003.
1. The aim of the Coalition should be very simple: to stop the war being launched by the United States and its allies.
2. Supporters of the Coalition, whether organisations or individuals, will of course be free to develop their own analyses and organise their own actions. But there will be many important occasions when united initiatives around broad stop the war slogans can mobilise the greatest numbers.
3. The Coalition shall elect a steering committee which reflects the breadth of those involved to carry forward the aims and objectives. Swindon Stop the War Coalition shall have regular, open and inclusive meetings.
4. We call on all peace activists and organisations, trade unionists, campaigners, faith communities and labour movement organisations to join with us in building a mass movement that can stop the drive to war.
5. We are committed to opposing any racist backlash generated by this war. We will fight to stop the erosion of civil rights.
6. We believe the war is being fought on more than one front. The United States and its allies have targeted Afghanistan, then Iraq, and may target other countries in the future. Another front of the same war is the continued oppression of the Palestinian people by the Israeli state. We are committed to campaigning for justice in Palestine.

The following resolutions were passed at the Annual General Meeting on 27th April 2004:
This conference recognises the achievements of the Stop the War Coalition in involving people across the political spectrum and re-affirms the political non-alignment of the Coalition.
Swindon Stop the War Coalition believes that the occupation forces have no legitimacy in the eyes of the Iraqi people, and that the conduct of the war by the occupation forces is making the situation worse not better. We therefore campaign for the immediate withdrawal of British and American forces from Iraq
