Robin Tingey, UKIP, Swindon North

Constituency: Swindon North
Candidate Name: Robin Tingey
Political Party: UKIP
(1.) Did you believe Tony Blair's 45 minute claim?
I didn't believe Britain was at risk, Britain would be out of range of his weapons. Later on it turned out this was a reference to field gun shells, very short range.
(2.) Do you believe the invasion of Iraq was legal?
Yes, but it was a bad decision. If Tony Blair ends up in Jail because of it then I'm wrong on this point.
(3.) Do you think the world is a safer place since the invasion & occupation of Iraq?
No
(4.) Do you support Military Families Against The War's call to bring the British troops home?
Yes
(5.) Do you think the Iraqi people have the right to resist the occupation?
No, killing our troops is not helping the rebuild of Iraq. Peaceful demonstration is much more sensible, after all the occupation is intended to be temporary. If the troops had left immediately after the regime had toppled, there would have been even more death and destruction.
(6.) Would you believe Tony Blair if he said he had secret information that Syria or Iran was a threat to Britain?
No, its not like they are next door.
(7.) Would you support military action against Syria or Iran?
Today No, there is no reason for it. However, if they invaded Turkey, we would be obliged to help Turkey as a fellow NATO member. I don't think they are likely to invade Turkey.
(8.) Do you approve of evidence obtained under torture being used in British courts?
No, people may say anything under extreme circumstances. But, it could lead to further police investigations, on the grounds that stopping terrorism is important. Applying some pressure during police interviews is a useful technique but torture starts when permanent damage or extreme pain is being caused. Generally I'm against torture and all terrorist suspects should be presumed innocent. It should not be seen as some way of applying punishment without a proper court hearing. But a real terrorist will not cooperate.
(9.) Do you think the USA & Britain have the right to decide who can & can't have weapons of mass destruction?
The old policy was mutually assured destruction and that was sufficient to deter countries from starting wars. These days its not countries we are worried about acquiring nuclear weapons, its terrorists!! Regardless of what the USA or Britain may say, various people all over the world are trying to get their hands on these weapons, recently India & Pakistan. In Russia, the security is poor. I remember a TV program where Roger Cook managed to buy some plutonium.
(10.) Do you think George Bush is a threat to world peace?
No, wars will happen even without George Bush. I wouldn't put him in the same category as Adolf Hitler who wanted to rule the world. Thinking back to the first Gulf war, which was started by Iraq, the wrong message was sent from the State Department that the USA would overlook an invasion of Kuwait, before it actually happened.
